Gotland has 57,000 of the more than 8 million inhabitants in Sweden. The island is 170 km long and 50 km wide. The city of Visby with its 3.5 km-long city wall was recognised by Unesco as a World Heritage in 1995.
Proximity to the beautiful but also vulnerable Baltic Sea sets Gotlanders apart and has attracted visitors since ancient times.
The magical light that is reflected in the island’s lime-rich bedrock gives strength and inspiration for creativity and innovation.
A multitude of bird life, luxuriously rich plant life and exciting geology all make up an excellent ecological platform. These unique natural and cultural qualities make up good pre-conditions for Gotland becoming a model sustainable community.
On Gotland there is also a varied business community with many interesting companies and the largest percentage of small businesses in Sweden. The main industries are tourism and agriculture.
